Snow brings out idiots

Journal Entry: Tue Jan 5, 2010, 4:47 PM

Heya Everyone.

Today's shift has been a utter nightmare. Rare as it is, it snowed on the Wirral today. Now, I like snow and its rather magical. I was hoping to take some shots today for it as well but no, that didn't happen.

All was going well until about 7pm when I, who was revising for exams, heard the door open. I look up to see 2 (maybe 3) 11-16 year olds pelt me with snowballs in the shop. One missed me, hitting the cigarettes behind me and the other hit me dead on the forehead. At that moment it flashed through my mind that it had rocks and such on. Thankfully, it didn't but the threat is there.

Anyway, about 40 minutes later, while I am trying to clear the mess up from the first one, they come back in and pelt me again. This happened, in total, 5 times from 7pm till about 10:30pm. I got hit on the head, the mouth and on my chest. The cigarette cupboard was (and still is) soaking wet. The floor is wet and there is a real threat that the lights above me were hit, getting water into the electrics.

What is really disturbing is that I think it is the same people (I say people ¬.¬ ) . I moved sites because of a similar issue in the previous petrol station. I don't think I can do that again.

Yeah, this is what we get paid national minimum wage for.

Heya Everyone!

Ok, I know, I know. Late, VERY late but...

Happy Christmas and New Year!

/facepalm

Anyway, the holidays are nearly over and to be honest, I am glad that they are. I've been working all through it, including Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day. I just want to get back to University and do something other than say "Enter your PIN".

Must go, got work later on today,

Heya Everyone!

Just got back from work and I am in a pi**ed mood. I very nearly ran someone over who was coming out of a taxi.

The situation is this: I am joining onto a road where the join is a blind junction. I need to turn left. On my side of the road is a taxi with his lights full on (very bright) so I am dazzled by them. The taxi didn't appear to be doing anything and with nothing coming, I move off. As I am moving, a lady opens the door and comes out onto the middle of the road. I do not see this door until it was fully open and I am about 3 feet away from the light source. Needless to say, I come to a dead stop very quickly.

It hacks me off when this happens. May I present rule 239 and 248 of the Highway code:

Rule 239: Use off-street parking areas, or bays marked out with white lines on the road as parking places, wherever possible. If you have to stop on the roadside...

  • do not park facing against the traffic flow

  • you MUST switch off the engine, headlights and fog lights

Rule 248: You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space.

*sigh* I guess I am a little shaken by the idea.

int grip = 0;

Heya Everyone!

A little tip for people who drive automatic (or in fact any gearbox) vehicles: Snow is a hell in white. CAREFULLY consider your route through the town.

I took Scarlet home tonight and the conditions were pretty bleak. Ice and snow. At first things looked okay until you hit a hill of practically any gradient. I took a route that at first we thought was fine until you considered the massive hill in the middle of it. So I take a slightly sharper but far shorter hill through an estate. Bad idea.

The traction control warning went off like a massive alarm clock. Too little power, we couldn't move. Too much power and the wheels span. Strangely, asking Scarlet to get out of the car seemed to help (probably due to removing weight) so we get moving again. This happened once again on the way there. The way back wasn't too bad because I managed to figure a route that wouldn't be too bad in terms of grip.

Scarlet put forwards the idea that the snow is light relief. I would like to think so. I love the stuff. I may get some snow shots before the end of it all.
